Funeral Services Abroad

Overseas funeral arrangements involve the ceremonies and necessary paperwork to be carried out in the country where the body will be sent after a person's death. These procedures may vary depending on the country where the death occurred and the country to which the body will be sent. For example, different documents and procedures may be required to send a body from Turkey to England.

Overseas funeral arrangements begin in the country where the death occurred. First, the cause of death is determined and a death notification is made. This notification is made to the local government units or private funeral companies of the country where the death occurred. After the death notification is made, the necessary documents for the funeral are prepared. These documents may include a death notification form, death certificate, international death certificate, funeral permit form, and funeral departure permit. Different conditions and requirements are considered depending on the country to which the body will be sent. After the funeral documents are prepared, special coffins and packaging materials required for the destination country are purchased. The body is placed in this coffin and transported to the destination country. During this process, agreements are made with air transport companies in the destination country, and the route is determined. Overseas funeral procedures may include the following steps: • Identification of the deceased: Identification of the deceased is done to confirm the death and determine the cause of death. This step is usually performed by a doctor and may vary depending on the cause of death. For example, if the cause of death is an accident, police and a forensic officer may also be involved in the funeral arrangements. • Determining the place and date of burial: The place and date of burial are usually determined by the family or relatives of the deceased. A cemetery in the country where the deceased is located can be chosen, or burial can be arranged from the country where the deceased is located to the country where the deceased was born. • Transporting the body: The body is transported from the country where the deceased is located to the country designated as the burial place. This transfer is usually carried out by a funeral transport company and can be done by air or land from the country where the deceased is located to the country designated as the burial place.

Burial: The burial of the deceased takes place after the deceased is transferred from the country where the deceased is located to the country designated as the burial place.
